Treatments for Skin Conditions

The skin is the largest organ in the body and it has several functions, including protection, excretion (in the form of sweat) and heat regulation. Inflammatory skin conditions include eczema and dermatitis. They can be effectively treated with moisturisers (emollients) and topical steroids such as hydrocortisone and betamethasone. Psoriasis is a skin condition where skin cells fail to stop growing and lead to thickened and inflamed patches or 'plaques'. Medicated creams such as calcipotriol and dithranol can help to manage the condition. There are many different creams used to treat skin infections, examples include fusidic acid and mupirocin.
